We are deeply saddened to report that Sotia Adamidou, one of CFP’s early and long-serving Cypriot Coordinators and one CFP’s cherished members, passed away on January 14, 2025, in Cyprus after a long illness. Sotia joined our Coordinator team in 2010, serving as Greek-speaking Cypriot Lead Coordinator in 2016 and 2017. In 2016, she and Turkish-speaking Cypriot Lead Coordinator Simge Kahvecioglu were awarded a Stelios Foundation grant for building Cypriot bicommunal cooperation through CFP. Sotia will be remembered as a gracious, creative and hardworking peacebuilder who devoted her post-teaching years to bringing peace to her island of Cyprus. “Sotia helped shape CFP from its beginning as a coordinator working with the teens. She chaperoned many and met new US coordinators and host families as the program expanded across the US. Sotia also loved Cyprus, constantly traveling across the whole island taking and posting beautiful pictures online and giving many days of her time to share its wonders with visitors. She was very special and will be missed. She was so much more……” Warren Muir, Chairman Emeritus “My Dear Friend, Your death has put all of us in deep misery. We have lost someone who dedicated her life tirelessly to work for peace in Cyprus. Together, we walked side by side for years, striving for unity and reaching out to every young Cypriot with hope and purpose. The effort you put into spreading hope, peace, and friendship inspired all of us. Though you are no longer physically with us, the love of peace you carried in your heart will continue to burn brightly within us. The memories we shared will forever guide me. I will always remember you with deep regards and endless love. Rest in peace, my dear friend.” Simge Kahvecioglu |
